Women Scientists – In the field of Mycology:
ORAL HISTORY PROJECT (2017-18)
Tapestries were commissioned by Manaaki Whenua (Landcare Research) to interview four women mycologists who study New Zealand fungi. Mycology is the branch of biology concerned with studying fungi, including their genetic and biochemical properties, taxonomy and use by humans as a source of tinder, traditional medicine, food, and entheogens. There are reportedly 6,500 species of fungi identified in Aotearoa/ New Zealand to date. This project was awarded a grant from the Ministry of Culture and Heritage Oral History awards.
